The Visions of Paul, Ananias, and John Rutere Mugo

I must admit that while reading about dreams and visions in the Bible was interesting, I never really appreciated their significance, until now. My encounter with John Rutere Mugo has changed that.

As related in my previous article, “YahwehShua Comes to Kenya,” John had a dream/vision in 1989 that an American would come to him. He never forgot that revelation. He had to wait until 2015 for the opportunity to ask an American in YahwehShua to come to Kenya to baptize him. The American was not aware of this vision, but John had the faith to pursue what he had been told. He boldly asked the American to come to him and I was unable to refuse. Despite the distance and cost I was driven to fulfill this request. This foretold meeting finally happened in 2016, twenty-seven years later.

This experience has prompted me to review Scriptural accounts of dreams and visions. The first one I turned to while in Kenya, after John’s revealing his vision to me, is the experience that Paul had on the road to Damascus and the part Ananias played in that experience. This is found in the book of Acts 9: 3-18:

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, who art thou, Master?  And the Master said, I am YahwehShua, whom thou persecutest:  it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Master, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Master said unto him, Arise, and go into the city and it shall be told to thee what thou must do. 7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. 8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.  9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat or drink. 10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Master in a vision, Ananias. And he said, behold, I am here, Master. 11 And the Master said unto him, arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth. 12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. 13 Then Ananias answered, Master, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy Saints at Jerusalem: 14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. 15 But the Master said unto him,  Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles [Nations], and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. 17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Master even YahwehShua, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

Paul was visited by YahwehShua.  He was knocked to the earth and blinded.  This was an extremely dramatic moment and left Paul with no other alternative but to go where he was told.

YahwehShua was also working with “a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias.”  This Ananias was told exactly where to find Paul, while Paul was told to wait until he was given further instructions. Ananias followed those instructions.

Ananias was very concerned about Paul’s reputation and how dangerous he might be. YahwehShua, however, said, “Go thy way.”  This command could not be denied.

Paul was stunned by the revelation and being disabled he had to be led by others.  He did not know what would happen next or how long he would be in his new condition. He submitted and waited.

YahwehShua told Ananias that Paul, “is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles [Nations], and kings, And the children of Israel.”  Ananias played a necessary but small role in this event that launched a major work. This calls to mind what David said in Psalm 84:10: “ I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my Elohim then to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

I really understand what David is saying. I am pleased to have played a small role in this event of bringing the Spirit of YahwehShua to Africa. John, to me, is the chosen vessel, whereas I am “a certain disciple.”

This event involving Paul and Ananias occurred early in this Messianic Age. The event involving John occurred during the end of this Age. How much time is left, I cannot say. But the number who know the truth of YahwehShua is small at this time. However, we do know that two witnesses must appear in Jerusalem (Revelation 11) just prior to the return of YahwehShua. But, where will they come from?

John has impressed me as a very driven and dedicated individual. When I arrived in Embu, Kenya, and visited his assembly building for the first time, I was immediately struck by the presence of a sign above the door indicating their affiliation with the Light of YahwehShua.  He knew what was happening and he was prepared.  I pray that Yahweh will use this small beginning to achieve a mighty end time work.

As an American, it is very easy to want to play the dominant role and assume that all great things will come from America. However, Yahweh seems to prefer to take the least and create the best.

When I flew to Nairobi from Amsterdam, I passed over Egypt where the Israelites observed the Passover. The next Passover is only weeks away at this writing. My journey would allow for baptisms that would prepare John and his small group to participate in a true Passover for the first time. Baptism in YahwehShua is a requirement to participate in the Passover under the New Covenant.

We, of the Light of YahwehShua are pleased to have this affiliate congregation in Kenya.  We pray that a mustard seed has been planted and with watering by prayer it will grow into a great tree that will be the source of a great work.

Perhaps you, the reader, are interested in joining us in this end time journey. Is reading this account your road to Damascus?  Perhaps you have been called from the foundation of the world to participate in this work. Please contact the Light of YahwehShua to determine if this is YOUR destiny.
